I didn’t know what to expect when we arrived at Howth Golf Club. What was it to be – hills and heart attacks or heaven on earth. The clubhouse exterior was impressive, the locker room was the roomiest and cleanest I’d ever seen, the bars and dining room first class as was the food and service and Jim in the pro shop was very friendly and more than helpful. The course is built on a hill and the views of the north and south coast of Dublin are breathtaking to say the least. It’s not a long course but some of the holes are very tricky. Go off the fairway and you are in the gorse or heather – don’t even bother looking for your ball. Small but perfectly manicured greens add to the excitement and difficulty. For one getting on in years a buggy was essential and took the sting out of the hillclimbs – but it didn’t stop the members from walking around the course. A fantastic experience.

Will I do it again? – You bet I will.

I could not recommend your club more to any visitors wishing a total golf experience. My family and I came to Ireland to play golf at all of the well known, big name courses as most of us Americans like to return home to name drop. At each course I would go to it seamed every local person would say have you played Howth Golf Club. I would say no and they would promptly tell me all the reasons that the course that I was being driven to has a big name but insisted that Howth is the whole package.

I asked further what they meant and I was told that the stunning views of Dublin and the amazing ocean views were breathtaking. The golf course is immaculately maintained and has some real challenging holes that will challenges us all. I found the staff the be not only friendly, but they went out of their way to set up a game for me with three of the local members; Paddy, Dez and Kevin. This was the highlight of my trip and I had just returned from St. Andrews playing the all the big names there. Upon retuning to California I have been telling all my golf friends about Howth Golf Club and how this is a must play and of all the courses played this was the place where my best memories will remain. Our two week golf adventure ended at Howth and I only wish we had more time to enjoy the friends we made there. Thank you so much for your hospitality. I look forward to our return next year.

Thanks so much to each of you for your part in making our two days in Dublin very memorable! What a wonderful way to end a great week in Ireland. Great golf, great food, spent with great friends!

Royal Dublin and Howth are two of the finest courses I have played. Royal Dublin would be tough in good weather—add wind and rain and you have the ingredients for the toughest course I have played–enjoyable–but tough!

Howth–classic course, great views–tough but fair–fast challenging greens, look forward to playing it again. Walt and I are committed to bringing home the Cup next time–win or lose–we know we will have a great time with some tremendous friends.

We look forward to our next meeting in the States and returning the hospitality.

To say I enjoyed the time in Ireland would be an understatement. It was my second visit to Ireland (not counting the numerous refueling stops in Shannon during Air Force days), I’m amazed at the “warmth of the Irish”.

We were most impressed to play the competition at such a special place as Howth, the hospitality of the captain–on course, as well as enjoying the hospitality of the Club’s facilities for a 19th hole round, an elegant lunch, and a great dinner. We’ll always remember Howth that day, with superb weather throughout, and what a challenge!! superb, fastest greens I ever played. Our feeble attempts to beat the course for all fell far short–Thank you so much. (But we have our ways….. and are returning next year…)
