SOCIAL DAYS AND NIGHTS IN HOWTH GOLF CLUB
FOR YOUR DIARY
As the countdown to the Christmas period begins, we have a wide range of very exciting activities lined up for you and your family and friends. There is something there for everyone and we hope to see you joining us at our festivities. Why not note them in your diary right now to make sure you don’t miss out!
FRIDAY, NOV 29TH – BIG FUN CHARITY NIGHT
We continue our Autumn programme with a fun packed double bill which will feature our very own Fred Newell & His Quintissential Brass Quintet together with our very first Charity Table Quiz. On the night, Fred will be our musical maestro, Tony Brady our Quiz Wizard and John Robinson our personable MC. The fun starts at 8pm and admission is only €10. All proceeds on the night will go to our special charity, the Capucian Centre for Homeless People in Bow St which offers free breakfasts, dinners and food to the hungry of Dublin. A more detailed letter will be sent next week.
And for those who cannot make it, we will be holding a Members’ Raffle for this great charity with eight prizes of dinner for two in one of Howth’s top restaurants. Tickets on sale at the Bar next week.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7TH – LADIES DINNER
This is the night when the Club ladies get the opportunity to show their appreciation for the great year which our Lady Captain Therese has given the club. Organised by the Lady Vice-Captain , we understand a beautiful menu has been agreed with our guest caterers, the singers and the dancers have been practicing their routines and a great night is promised.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14TH – CHRISTMAS CAROL AND SINGING NIGHT
Our traditional Chrismas Carol Night will feature the Howth Golf Club Choir under the baton of musical director Emer O’Hanlon, a buffet supper and a members’ Seasonal Sing Song. So get into the shower and practice your party piece to entertain your fellow members on the night. And if you play a musical instrument, you are extra welcome. Meal cost is €15 per person.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15TH – SANTA CLAUSE PAYS HIS VISIT
This is our great family day, organised by Bert O’Brien, when the mammies and daddies, the grandads and grannies get to enjoy the company of our younger ones and they get the opportunity to meet the best Santa Clause in Dublin who has come from the frozen north. Its for boys and girls, 10 years and under. Don’t forget to add your childrens’names to the list when it goes on the Club Notice Board at the end of November. And of course, we will have a full lunch menu with a special lunch for the children, face painters, etc.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 31ST – NEW YEARS EVE GALA DINNER
This will be the first Club function at which we join our 2014 Captains to cheer in the New Year with a Gala 5-course dinner and a lively band to keep us dancing into the early hours. This is always a great night, so put it in your diary. Members are encouraged to book a table and bring family and friends along.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 4TH – CAPTAINS’ DRIVE-IN
On this day, members are invited to join the 2014 Captains, Muiris and Breda, for a healthy 9-hole shot-gun start 9-hole competition, followed by the traditional drive-in and reception in the Club House.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 17, 2014 – TOM CREAN, ANTARCTIC HERO
On this, our first Theatre Night of 2014, we are bringing to the Club one of Ireland’s most celebrated theatrical treats, “Tom Crean”, the exciting and most dramatic staging of the story of the Kerry hero who travelled on three South Pole expeditions with Scott and Shackelton and survived to run a pub in Kerry and tell the story. This play has thrilled audiences throughout the world and we expect a full house in Howth Golf Club on this January night. We know its January, but if Tom Crean could make it to the South Pole, he will surely make it to Howth Golf Club irrespective of conditions.
FEBRUARY / MARCH 2014
In mid February we will be welcome a marvellous choir from a northside golf club, who will share the bill with a top popular singer. Then we will have the St Patrick’s Hooley Night on March 15th. More about these around the time.
I will be stepping down from my role as House, Catering and Social Convenor at the AGM and I would like to thank most sincerely the great team, Niamh, Maura, Pauline, Norma, Mossie, Des and Darragh Tighe which has enabled the Club to run a most exciting social programme over the past three years. Their commitment, enthusiasm and hard work has been wonderful. And, on the House side, it will be great to see the men getting their new Shower Room in mid-January. My thanks also to Fiona Staunton for her help on the House and to Nuala O’Connor on the Catering.
Regards,
