The Fingal Seniors held their penultimate competition in Balcarrick last Friday, in delightful conditions. Almost all the league clubs were represented and some scintillating golf was played by the 88 competitors.
Howth had won the Gala Day team prize in 2011 and were keen to retain the trophy. However, other clubs had contrary ideas and eventually our grip on the prize was broken by Westmanstown, who produced a magnificent team score of 217pts.( best 6 cards ) to win outright from Balbriggan in second place, with Howth third.
We gained some consolation with Muiris Heron winning Third place in the individual competition with a well crafted 38 pts. The overall singles winner was John Merrigan( Westmanstown ) on 40pts.
The final Fingal Seniors event is The Fingal Mixed Foursomes Competition on Friday 21 Sept. in Balcarrick, where Howth will be well represented and seeking to get our hands on some silverware.

Founded in 1916 the heath land links style course was designed by the renowned golfer and course architect James Braid, a 5 times winner of “The Open” Golf Championship who can count the design of the prestigious Kings and Queens Courses at Gleneagles amongst his greatest achievements.
James was well known for including dog leg design golf holes in his course designs and the 5th hole in particular is an excellent example of how he blended a great golf hole into the unique Howth Heathers. The exceptional views from the 16th tee are worthy of mention in any golf guide.
